Gasification
APA's PHG-08 (Process Heat Gasifier) reactors run on multiple biomass and coal feedstock with moisture contents ranging from 12-48% (moisture content above 35% slows the phase change process down, but is still self-sustaining). Using commercial woodchips (at 25% moisture content), they have a net thermal output of around 3.5 MMbtu/hr per reactor (multiple reactors are connected in parallel to meet higher process heat loads). It is standard practice to connect 4/6/8 or 12 reactors to a single Process Heat Gasifier. Up to thirty two or more reactors can be connected to a single Process Heat Gasifier. These PHG systems are an economical alternative to natural gas in industrial fired equipment, such as kilns, ovens, dryers, boilers, oxidizers, etc. Payback can be as low as 2.5 years, depending on the number of reactors deployed and the cost of the delivered feedstock.
PHG’s run continuously (24/7), have excellent turn-down ratios, and can be stopped and restarted easily. The output gas (~900°F) is polished with a cyclone prior to injection into the fired equipment. As with most fired equipment, Oxygen is only added where combustion takes place, and the producer gas itself is easy to pipe by way of conventional methods. The outlet producer gas is extremely clean and typically does not require the addition of any downstream flue gas treating equipment. PHG's are fully automated using Allen-Bradley PLC’s and come with an integrated Wonderware HMI control application.
APA not only designs and manufacturers gasifiers and gasifier systems, we also provide full service engineering and construction services (turnkey) through our affiliated partners and can adapt gasification systems to most any industrial natural gas fired process.
